I've been away for a while after a lot of family deaths, illnesses and after not being so well myself. Add to threats of redundancy, money worries and a million other things going on I didn't have the time nor inclination to contribute to the forum.

Anyway, I'm back and angry. Details in my Work thread!!!

I'm now off Leflunomide and Plaquenil. Lef gave me tingles/numbness (quite severe) and I had to have nerve conduction tests and thyroid function tests. We tried Plaquenil which gave me a severe allergic reaction after two weeks requiring a hospital visit. That's Sulfasalazine, Methotrexate, leflunomide and Plaquenil I've failed on.

I was due to start on Humira but I had to wait until the results of the nerve conduction tests came through. I'm seeing my consultant Monday and hopefully they'll start the ball rolling. I darn well hope so because this is spreading and deteriorating pretty rapidly. I've gone downhill pretty fast, not as fast as many people here, but enough to worry me considerably.

In the meantime I'm keeping myself busy with my writing (I'm now starting to throw my insane ramblings at a variety of magazines and websites) and photography. I've not done much of my daft dressing up for charity as I've been too sick and in too much pain to run around as Princess Leia or Catwoman. And I have the battle of all battles with my rotten, cold-hearted employers coming up. I fully intend to drag them through the courts if I have to and shame them into never treating another sick or disabled person in the same manner.

Hi Mairead

Sorry to hear all you have been going through in recent days, you have had a very stressful time and continue to do so with the absolutely awful treatment you are having to endure at your work place. Its a good job you can stand up to this woman and have your union behind you, it seems she has had her way for far too long, and certainly needs to be put in her place once and for all.

I hope that you can get onto the Humira very shortly and can get your life back on track, I remember your early posts about your dressing up for charity, lets hope you can get back to being daft again Laugh

Best wishes Julia x

Hello!

I have failed a long list, and Im cheered to tell you that you have a long list of them to come and my consultant still hasnt given up trying to find me a solution.

with RA, its not a smooth trajectory.

its not that it steadily gets worse until treated. It goes through jumps and starts.

Stress DOES effect it. For somethings, as my consultant once told me- (a very tearful Jenni who's daughter had just moved to special unit for young teens with mh issues) that for some things- there is no medicine.

I find I am relatively steady (bad but steady) when going THROUGH the stressful time. When the immediate crisis passes then the whatsit hits the fan.

Also, I have known people who have had a "bit of RA" in a couple of fingers from their youth and then get post menopause and suddenly are really really bad. I also have met lots of people who had horrid disease and then suddenly it eased right off. Often big hormone surges or big stresses behind it.

Having practiced on various blogs,
I am seriously doing the writing now- seeing a publisher tomorrow and delighted to say there is something I can usefully do from my bed!

Are you mainly doing short stories or articles?

Jenni xx

Hi Mairead

No wonder you are feeling so ill what with all the stress etc. I do hope you get some relief soon and an answer to your problems.
